I saw the opening night of 1979 by Michael Healey last night. This production was postponed by the pandemic, so is now on at the Belfry Theatre until October 5th. I really enjoyed this production, directed by Glynis Leyshon, with set design by Pam Johnson, costumes designed by Charlotte Dean, with Tobin Stokes as composer and sound designer, and Keith Houghton doing the effective projections.

The play is a rollicking one-act running 90 minutes. Jay Hindle was terrific in his multiple roles, playing Flora Macdonald and other roles, including Pierre Trudeau. Nathan Howe was a very good Joe Clark, who was only in power for a couple of months before facing a non-confidence vote, which he lost, and subsequently, Trudeau won the next election. Luisa Jojic had fun in her multiple roles as well, including the young Stephen Harper. Clark’s encounter with Harper was a strong scene. Overall, this was a terrific production. Recommended. https://tix.belfry.bc.ca/
