We saw the opening night of Little Dickens on December 2nd. What a treat! Performed and created by the masterful Ronnie Burkett, with musical arrangements by John Alcorn and stage managed by Crystal Salverda, this was a dream production, just in time for the holidays! Of course, Burkett is a living national treasure. I’ve been fortunate to see a number of his productions, including in Toronto and Vancouver. His puppets are exquisite, all hand carved, and this one was a real hoot! Burkett improvises his way through this show, although there is a script, but he veers widely from the script at times, and of course, there is audience participation! Burkett brought four volunteers from the audience up onto the stage to do a number of tasks throughout the roughly 90-120 minutes long show. Their tasks varied from operating a musical orchestra, to play the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Scrooge is played by the Diva Esme Masengill with great aplomb. As are all the puppets in the Daisy Theatre, all works of art. This was a real treat and a show not to be missed for the Christmas season. Running until December 21st only, Tickets available here https://www.belfry.bc.ca/event/little-dickens/
